Entering Next Phase

Wow! I guess I have officially entered a new phase in life. My three children were all born within 31/2 years. Those early years both crawled and flew by, but boy was it a challenge. For so many years we had someone who always needed our direct attention. Because of the constant chaos, we decided that we would put off the inevitable extra-curicular activites until everyone was older. I decided that I just couldn't deal with loading up a 4 year old, a 2 year old and at 9 month old and tromping off to the soccer field. So, we made the rule that you have to be in first grade before you do anything.

Last year our oldest son finally entered 1st grade. He decided that he would join the Boy Scouts. He finished the year, but decided that it really wasn't for him. I let out a big sigh of relief when the baseball sign-ups came out in the spring and he said he didn't want to play, but that time is over. We went to our first soccer game on Sunday. He plays for the Razors - a team of 2nd and 3rd graders. It was actually pretty fun. The younger kids were able to play on the playground, and I spend a couple minutes talking to old high school acquaintences I haven't seen in years.

Then suddenly, this week we've got PTO meeting tonight, chuch tomorrow night, soccer practice on Thursday night and a sleepover (they're going away - HOORAY) on Friday night. Yes, I have definately entered the stage of life that I have been dreading - "soccer mom". My kids are going to start living in the vehicle. Dinner is going to become a fiasco of people eating at different times as they run out the door to the next thing. And as my next child will enter 1st grade next fall, it's only going to get worse.

I guess I have always dreaded the running, because I'm a homebody. But, the worst part is going to be running them for the next 10 years until they are old enough to run themselves. Then before you know it, they are running out of your home and on to their own lives. I hope between all the chaos, they still learn all the things I have to teach them before they're gone.

Well, I have to go - got PTO tonight you know,
Jacqui

Good luck with it Jacqui! Been there and sometimes I wish I could go back. But other times I'm thankful that it's over! LOL Enjoy them while you can.

I commend you for raising three young children, it's no picnic! I am glad your oldest is enjoying soccer.
